2Ti Academy · Sports Technology Workshop

How Technology
Is Changing Sport

Your team has three matches in eight days. What would you measure?

Sports technology can give a team more information. The harder question is knowing which information matters, what context is missing and whether a tool helps answer the sporting question in front of you.

In this four-hour, face-to-face workshop, explore wearables, video and athlete data through practical examples and a fictional team scenario. No sports science background required.

Eligible attending coaches can claim 4 CoachSG Continuing Coach Education (CCE) hours for this workshop.

The challenge

More data does not automatically mean better decisions.

A wearable may record distance or workload. Video may make a moment easier to review. Neither tells you, on its own, what a coach should do next. A useful decision starts with a clear question and takes account of the athlete, the team and the situation.

This workshop helps you practise that judgement: understand what a tool may show, recognise its limits and consider whether it is suitable for a real sporting need.

Who should attend

Coaches

Consider how technology may support training and match decisions while keeping the athlete and context in view.

Club and academy staff

Ask clearer questions about a team’s needs, budget and workflow before selecting tools.

Students and career explorers

Get an accessible introduction to the tools and decisions involved in sports performance work.

Sporting parents and enthusiasts

Make better sense of the technology and data discussed around developing athletes.

What you will practise

Use context to move from information to a reasoned choice.

01

Identify common sports technology categories and the questions they can help explore.

02

Interpret wearable and video observations in the context of the athlete, team and situation.

03

Assess data quality, athlete needs, cost and practical adoption before recommending a tool.

04

Explain a reasoned technology recommendation for a realistic team or academy scenario.

The four-hour workshop

Questions, examples and practical judgement.

01

The technology landscape

Explore where wearables, video, athlete monitoring and performance analysis fit into training and competition.

02

Wearables in context

Consider measures such as distance, speed and workload—and why a number can mean different things for different athletes.

03

Watching with a question

Use structured observation of a sporting clip to identify what video may help you understand.

04

Information and decisions

Work through a fictional match schedule and decide what a coach needs to know before changing a plan.

05

Choosing what fits

Weigh the sporting need, available resources and practical limits. Decide whether a tool is appropriate.

Try the question

Three matches in eight days. What does the coach need to know?

A dashboard could show dozens of figures. In a guided fictional scenario, you will identify the coach’s key questions, consider what observations or measurements may help and discuss what the information cannot tell you. Then you will weigh a suitable tool against the team’s resources and explain your recommendation.

The scenario is educational. You do not need previous experience with GPS systems or analysis software.
